Bulb Tetra
10 gallon fish tank?
i just got my first 10 gallon fish tank all set up with a filter and a fluorescent bulb. It is the 10 gallon starter kit from Tetra brand. I also have a heater and i'm keeping it at 79 degrees. I put some sand on the bottom and then i put two pieces of driftwood with java moss around it. I also use two pieces of plastic (circular with holes in them) to grow riccia inbetween them. Today, i added a dwarf puffer and a green tiger barb. Is there any advice on this tank? Thanks. Good answers only...
oh yeah about cycling, the guy at the store gave me a cycling booster so i also added that. Anyone have any suggestions on plants that will look really nice in my tank. Also, are there snails that won't eat plants but will eat the food left behind (worms and flakes).
Dont listen to the people saying your puffer needs brackish. Dwarf puffers are one of the few puffers that are freshwater fish so no marine salt whatsoever. I do agree w/ them however that the tiger barb and the puffer are not good tankmates, they are both fin nippers and barbs tend to be much more agressive when not kept in groups and it will grow up to 3 inches and your puffer will only hit at most 1.5inches. It be best if you took the barb back and get 2 more dwarf puffer. each dwarf puffer needs about 2-3 gallons each and its best to keep them in a ratio of 1 male to every 2 females. Dwarf puffers have been known to do really well w/ oto catfish so you could also get 2-3 oto catfish too. oh and if those snails are pond snails the puffers will eat them.
You could also take the puffer back and get like 2 or 3 more barbs but in my opinion puffers are much cooler fish to own.
