THE SURF TRIP
So what does surfing have to do with the
food that you are about to put into your
mouth? Quite a lot! It all
started when the friends that put this
restaurant together found their love of
surfing and the beach in the first place.
We found ourselves taking surf trips to see
the places and surf the waves that we only
dreamed about as kids. (Don't discount
the waves here -- the proof is on the walls
that the surf can be great! And the
beach is beautiful!) As the need for
survival would have it, we also had to eat
while traveling around the globe in search
of waves and beautiful beaches. As
surfers always do, during flat spells, or
over a drink or two, we talk about all the
waves and adventures we have had throughout
our lives. Inevitably the subject of
food pops up during the conversations.
It often goes something like this:
"Hey, do you remember those fish tacos we
had in Baja that time?" "Oh, man, (or
mate, if you're Australian)! Those
were so good!" "How about the jerked
chicken in Jamaica?" "Hmmm, and that
tuna steak in Costa Rica!" "I'd kill
to have a big plate of that right now!"
(disclaimer: no one was killed or
injured in the course of building this
menu).
So we took some more trips and found
ourselves talking about the food more and
more and wishing we had a place around our
surf break and beach where we could get
wonderful tasting Caribbean and Baja
influenced dishes. As fate would have
it, in early 2006 an opportunity arose.
We got our hands on some money and found
just the right place for our restaurant.
We have fused together the flavors of
seaside cuisines we have tasted, our own
Texas roots influence and South padre
Island's regional fare to become Dorado's
Baja Bar & Grill. We hope you enjoy
the food as much as we have enjoyed surfing
and eating around the world. |
